As a BCom graduate in Digital Marketing working at Insuresage Risk Consultants, I have learned that one of the most valuable things early in your career is being trusted to contribute meaningfully.
Working in a focused environment has allowed me to do more than simply observe from the sidelines. I have had the opportunity to actively apply what I studied, contribute ideas, think creatively, and gain hands-on experience in real business situations. Instead of being limited to one function, I have been exposed to various aspects of business, which has challenged me to think more broadly and professionally.
What makes this experience even more exciting is that while growing in marketing, I am also in the process of becoming a broker within the risk management industry. At first, I saw digital marketing and risk management as two completely separate worlds, but this journey has shown me how connected they actually are.
Digital marketing is ultimately about understanding people, building trust, communicating values, and creating meaningful relationships. Risk management requires many of those same skills. Whether it is understanding a client’s needs, identifying potential risks, communicating solutions clearly, or building long-term credibility, both fields rely heavily on trust, strategy, and strong relationships.
Being exposed to both sides has completely changed the way I think about business and professional growth. My background in digital marketing has taught me how to position a brand, communicate effectively, and understand consumer behaviour, while learning more about risk management has strengthened my understanding of responsibility, problem-solving, relationship management, and client trust.
It has also opened my mind to the importance of adaptability in today’s professional world. Sometimes the most valuable growth comes from stepping outside the role you originally imagined for yourself. The more I learn, the more I realise that growth often happens when different skills, industries, and experiences begin to overlap.
What I have appreciated most is the freedom to learn through involvement. From marketing strategy and branding to client communication and business development, every experience has pushed me to grow both professionally and personally.
Being in an environment where questions are welcomed and ideas are encouraged has shown me how important workplace culture is for development. When you are trusted to take ownership, you learn faster, become more confident, and begin understanding the real impact of your contribution.
This experience has reminded me that career growth is not always about the size of the organisation. It is about:
• Whether your voice is heard
• Whether curiosity is encouraged
• Whether learning is practical, not just theoretical
• Whether you are trusted with responsibility and encouraged to grow beyond your title
Environments that encourage ownership often come with greater responsibility, but they also create space for real learning, real exposure, and long-term professional growth.
For graduates entering the workforce: do not underestimate organisations that prioritise involvement, learning, and trust. Sometimes, that is exactly where the most valuable growth happens.
I remain deeply appreciative of Insuresage Risk Consultants for fostering a culture that encourages both personal and career growth. Being part of an organisation that values people, supports continuous learning, and creates opportunities for meaningful contribution makes the professional journey both rewarding and impactful.
